The word Pagerwesi means 'iron fence'and reflects the purpose of this important event: It is the day to strengthen one's fortrifications against evil. During Pagerwesi, people pray to Sanghyang Pramesti Guru ( Lord of the Universe) for strong mental defencein wordly tempation and people make special offering for the dead who have not yet been cremated. Observances are usually held at every house compopund and temples. In North of Bali ( Buleleng Regency) it is more lively celebrated.
